The state of Manipur is undergoing rapid urbanization both in the hills and valleys increasing the risk to plant diversity. Even the most common sps. are now under threat. In current time botanic garden are starting to play a role in the mitigation of the effects of climate change and could be absolutely vital to the survival of the planet as they are perfectly placed to help move species around and help ecosystems to adapt to new climates in different regions.

“The Khonghampat Botanical Garden is about 13 kms from Imphal. The foundation stone of this garden was laid on the 6th of January 2000 .”

– Shri W. Nipamacha Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur
